A professor in a medical college in India was physically assaulted after he made a public proposal to a student in class, according to NDTV.

A video of the unsolicited proposal was uploaded online, showing the professor, identified as Abdul, standing in front of the classroom and professing his love to one female student.

He also announced that he was distributing chocolate to the batch of students, whom he said gave him "immense love".

The female student, to whom he allegedly proposed, then spoke up, rejected his proposal, and suggested that he raise it with the principal.

Abdul then said, "How come you proposed to me?"

To which, she said: "When did I propose?"

Abdul then claimed that there was CCTV evidence before he walked out of the classroom.

Footage of Abdul being scolded and beaten up on campus by a female student and several other male students also circulated.

Barred from entering college premises

According to Times of India, the professor had received complaints from students over alleged inappropriate behaviour and sexual harassment.

The college has also barred him from entering the campus before the incident.

However, Abdul still went to the campus to propose to the student.

The college principal said a police report has been made against the professor related to assault, sexual harassment and criminal trespass.
