A male police officer, who dressed up as a woman, lured and molested a 15-year-old boy to a HDB staircase landing by telling him he needed help adjusting his bra.

Sharizal Bin Shafi'ee, 40, molested and allegedly recorded minors performing sexual acts while he was still with the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

In response to Mothership's queries, the police said that following the incident, SPF swiftly initiated investigations against the-then Inspector and immediately removed him from frontline duties.

The police added that Sharizal subsequently resigned from the SPF on Jun. 16, 2024.

Pleaded guilty

On Mar. 24, the ex-police officer pleaded guilty to five charges, including the molestation and recording acts.

Sharizal will be sentenced on Apr. 21, and 10 other similar charges with at least three other victims will be taken into consideration.

To protect the victims' identities, a gag order has been issued.

Dressed up as a woman & targeted 3 boys in a day

On Apr. 18, 2024, Sharizal allegedly targeted three different boys in one day.

According to The Straits Times (ST), on Apr. 18, the court heard that Sharizal left his home dressed as a woman, wearing makeup.

Sharizal waited by the back gate of a secondary school and approached students to ask them for help in adjusting his bra.

Two students rejected his advances, but Sharizal eventually found a 15-year-old male student who agreed.

At around 2:45pm, Sharizal led the boy to a nearby HDB staircase landing between the ninth and 10th floors.

He demonstrated how the boy should assist in adjusting the bra, reported ST.

As the boy stood behind him, Sharizal started to grind against him and reached behind to molest him.

From around 5:01 to 5:19pm, Sharizal allegedly targeted a third victim, another 15-year-old boy, to engage in sexual acts over a Telegram video call, which he allegedly recorded.

Phone allegedly recorded at least 32 men performing sexual acts

Sharizal was arrested by police on Apr. 28, 2024.

Forensic investigations revealed that Sharizal allegedly recorded at least 32 men performing sexual acts on his phone.

He also admitted to having acted as a woman on social media to talk to other men, and on at least one occasion, he is alleged to have secretly recorded a victim performing a sex act on the call.

ST reported that Sharizal's lawyer said the ex-police officer has shown genuine remorse and is taking steps towards rehabilitation.

His lawyer said that Sharizal was a law-abiding citizen before his offences and had a distinguished 17-year career in the SPF with several commendations.

However, the prosecution said Sharizal's offences were severe.

“He had secretly recorded a total of 36 individuals, including four children, masturbating.

During this period, he also physically acted on his criminal impulses and outraged the modesty of a 15-year-old schoolboy.”

Sharizal is out on bail of S$20,000.

Penalties

Individuals found guilty of outrage of modesty can face up to three years' jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of the sentences.

If found guilty of having or attempting to procure the commission of any obscene or indecent act from a minor under the age of 16, an individual can face up to five years' jail, a fine of up to S$10,000 or both.

Those found guilty of intentionally producing child abuse material can face up to 10 years' jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of the sentences.

The police said officers "are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity".
