Footage of Chinese woman, 34, found dead in Thai canal, being dragged into BMW by man surfaces

A Chinese woman who had reportedly been working as a party entertainer in Pattaya, Thailand was found dead in a canal in Ratchaburi, over 200km away, on Feb. 25 after reportedly sending a distress message reading “help me” shortly before she disappeared.

Thai police identified the woman as 34-year-old Ji Cherngchao, who had last been seen in Pattaya after attending a gathering at a private pool villa, according to The Thaiger.

Sent distress message

Ji sent a message saying “help me” to her friend at around 6:37am on Feb. 21, reported The Thaiger.

She also reportedly shared her location before contact with her was lost.

Concerned after failing to reach her, the friend alerted Ji's partner, Zhang Xiaotian, who travelled from China to Thailand two days later and filed a missing person report with local authorities.

Last seen at Pattaya pool villa

Investigators said Ji had attended a gathering at a pool villa in Pattaya in an entertainment capacity prior to her disappearance.

CCTV footage later reviewed by police reportedly showed her in the company of several Chinese nationals at the villa.

In footage cited by the Bangkok Post, one Chinese man was later seen carrying her out of the premises while she appeared unconscious before placing her into black BMW sedan and driving away.

Police believe the man seen in the footage is linked to her disappearance.

Body found in canal

Ji’s body was eventually found partially submerged in a canal, clad only in white shorts, beside a coconut and mango orchard in Ratchaburi province at 1pm on Feb. 25.

Authorities said the body had already begun decomposing when it was discovered.

Thai police have since identified a 29-year-old Chinese suspect, Zhao Tianxing, as cited by the Bangkok Post, and issued an arrest warrant in connection with the case.

The man is reportedly still at large.

Investigations are ongoing while a forensic examination is carried out to determine the woman’s cause of death.
