Youth, 17, arrested for dragging police officer with PMD at Punggol, leaving him with facial injuries that needed 20 stitches

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested by the police for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty.

On Jan. 22, 2026, at about 10:30pm, the police were alerted to a group of youths causing excessive noise at the vicinity of Blk 305A Punggol Road.

When the police arrived, the group immediately started to scatter in various directions.

The youth in question, who was seated on his Personal Mobility Device (PMD), was stopped by a police officer who held onto the handlebar of the PMD and his arm.

Undeterred, he abruptly accelerated the PMD, causing the officer to be dragged for a distance before falling off.

This resulted in the officer sustaining lacerations on his forehead, left eyebrow and left cheek.

The youth subsequently crashed the PMD into a nearby pillar and was arrested shortly after.

The officer received about 20 stitches for his facial injuries and was given 13 days of medical leave.

The youth is scheduled to be charged in court on Jan. 24 with the offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code 1871.

The offence carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, and a fine, or caning.
