Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's uneasy alliance of his Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition may not survive the next Malaysian general election.

Umno's secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki shared this during the party's general assembly on Jan. 17.

"We do not have any decision regarding that yet," Asyraf said, in response to a question from the media, Malay Mail reported.

There has been tensions between Umno, the main party in BN and the DAP, a major party in the PH coalition.

Several Umno figures complained when DAP Member of Parliament Yeo Bee Yin celebrated the news of ex-prime minister Najib Razak's rejected bid for house arrest.

Umno's youth chief, Akmal Saleh, also urged the party to quit ties with Anwar's government and ally with PAS (Malaysia Islamist Party), the main opposition party in parliament.
