S'pore's Rachel See, 43, wins HK half marathon after last-minute decision to enter, was there to accompany husband
Double champs in a month.
A month after emerging as the champion in the Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon on Dec. 7, 2025, Singaporean long-distance runner Rachel See triumphed at the Hong Kong Standard Chartered half marathon on Jan. 18, 2026.
Unplanned race
See, 43, had not initially intended to run the Hong Kong race, according to Shin Min Daily News.
She had travelled to the city to accompany her husband, who was participating in the full marathon on the same day.
Arriving just two days before the race, See made a last-minute decision to sign up for the half marathon, a race she had participated in multiple times previously.
She initially maintained a second-place position behind Hong Kong runner Vut Tsz Ying, but overtook her in the final kilometre to win the race by six seconds, clocking a personal best of one hour, 20 minutes and 56 seconds.
Speaking to the media afterwards, See said that she entered the race with no specific strategy and with a relaxed mindset.
The race conditions proved challenging, however, due to the windy atmosphere, cool weather and hilly terrains.
"I will go back after the race," she said.
Previous champion of Singapore marathon
See entered the Hong Kong half marathon following the Singapore Standard Chartered marathon about a month ago, a race she won with a timing of two hours, 58 minutes and 15 seconds.
It was the third consecutive title for the mother of two, who only picked up running in her 20s after beginning her career.
She told Shin Min that now that her children are grown, she is able to spend more time focusing on running, typically going for a morning run at 5:30am before caring for her daughters and preparing for work.
