Chinese man, 32, apparently overworked, dies, was added to work group chat while fighting for life
Tragic.
A man, 32, a programmer in China, was working at home on Nov. 29 when he suddenly felt unwell and subsequently fainted.
His family rushed him to the hospital, but despite their best efforts, Gao Guanghui (transliteration) passed away.
Media reports suggested that he died after a cardiac arrest.
According to Chinese media, Gao had been promoted to department manager and had been working long hours leading up to his death.
A screenshot from his wife showed her urging him to come home.
She would later lament on Weibo that she would never get to hear him again saying he is back from work.
She ended her Weibo post with a question: "Where are you? Could you come back to visit us? Do you know we are still waiting for you to come home?"
Added to work group chat
Even as he was fighting for his life, Gao was added to a new work group chat asking him to handle work issues.
Eight hours after he passed, a colleague apparently messaged him to tell him that the work was urgent and needed to be completed.
According to HK01, the family believes his death stemmed from his overworking and has applied for compensation.
The wife also shared details about how the company had apparently treated her husband's belongings after he passed.
She said she was sent a box of his personal belongings, which were not even properly packed.
She also claimed that some items had been disposed of, and when she went to the company to demand an explanation, she was allegedly told these items were already gone, and her concerns were dismissed.
Investigations are ongoing into the situation and the overwork claims.
