Debates about a curious pedestrian overhead bridge in Sengkang have flared up again, demonstrating how some issues in Singapore never truly fade away.

On Jan. 18, Facebook user Isaiah Tan shared a photo of the bridge, calling it the most "redundant overhead bridge in the world" and a "waste of taxpayer money."

A similar photo was later shared by local politician Lim Tean, who also called it a waste of money and a "useless" bridge.

He added that "we need an answer from the relevant MPs!"

But such an answer was indeed provided by the relevant Member of Parliament (MP), back in 2021.

Then-MP Gan Thiam Poh revealed that the bridge is located near block 406B Fernvale Lane, part of Ang Mo Kio GRC.

Gan explained that the bridge does indeed have multiple uses, Zaobao reported.

Firstly, the overhead bridge functions as a sheltered walkway for people on the ground.

Secondly, it is a drop-off point.

Lastly, the bridge itself can be used as an observation deck for residents, where one can admire the greenery around them and pose for photos.

"If it's only an overhead bridge, few people might actually use it. But since it's designed for multiple purposes, one can maximise its use," Gan said.

See you back here when someone else brings up the bridge in 2031.
