The PM2.5 levels in the eastern part of Singapore were slightly elevated on Saturday evening (Jan. 24), likely due to a detected hotspot and smoke plume in Johor.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) shared an update on Facebook, noting that some haze could have drifted over from the hotspot, affecting air quality.

Some residents had reported a faint smell of burning, said NEA.

According to The Straits Times, the air quality in the eastern part of Singapore showed PM2.5 levels of 162 at 4:45pm.

This is considered in the unhealthy range.

As of 9am on Jan. 25, the 24-hr PSI reading remains at 56 in the eastern region with the PSI reading in the central part of Singapore rising to 51, both in the "moderate" range. The 1-hour PM2.5 readings are at normal levels across Singapore this morning, according to the NEA website.

Air quality is considered "normal" if the PM2.5 reading is within 0-55.
