Chinese husband goes berserk, smashes house up after wife buys dishwasher without his consent
A day after his rampage, the husband apologised and promised to buy a smaller dishwasher.
A woman in China’s Guangdong province bought a 1,500 yuan (S$269) dishwasher without her husband’s consent, prompting him to smash up their living room when he saw it being installed, reported South China Morning Post.
The woman stated that she needed the machine because tap water in winter was too cold for her to wash dishes by hand, and her husband does not do any washing up.
The husband only found out about the purchase when a worker called to install the dishwasher in their rented flat. He ordered her to cancel the order and return the machine, but she refused.
The husband said that the dishwasher was an unnecessary expense and that they could not afford it due to high water and electricity charges.
The woman reaffirmed that the family could afford the purchase.

The woman is an unemployed stay-at-home mum with two children living in their hometown, whilst the husband works far from home, earning 11,000 yuan (S$2,028) a month.
She stated that the conflict over her shopping purchases is one of many, adding that her husband is in considerable debt of 200,000 yuan (S$36,893), according to 163.com.
The woman explained that he may not have felt comfortable with their finances as she was sick and unemployed last year.
To appease her husband, she returned the dishwasher the next day, and her husband called to apologise, stating that he was in a bad mood and would treat her well in the future, promising to buy a smaller dishwasher.
