Singapore distance runner Soh Rui Yong finished seventh in the men's 10,000m SEA Games final with a time of 31 minutes 31.91 seconds.

The gold medal went to Kieran Tuntivate of Thailand, with a time of 29:41.81.

The silver and bronze medals went to Yacine Guermali from the Philippines and Rikki Marthin Luther Simbolon from Indonesia respectively, CNA reported.

Thailand's Tuntivate also won the 1,500m and 5,000m events.

In an Instagram post on Dec. 15, Soh wrote:

"From being perhaps the youngest athlete to win the SEA Games marathon gold (23 years old) to now the oldest athlete on the 10,000m start line for tonight (34 years old), I feel privileged to have lived through more than 10 years at the top level of SEA distance running."

Previously, Soh was picked for the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, but did not compete in the marathon and won the 10,000m silver. He had won the SEA Games marathon twice.

Earlier in December, Soh's health screening at Changi General Hospital (CGH) yielded electrocardiogram (ECG) results that showed that his heart activity was “abnormal".

He was eventually medically cleared to compete in the SEA Games 10,000m, according to The Straits Times.

Over the Dec. 6 and 7 weekend, he won both the both Standard Chartered half marathon and full marathon.
