WhatsappA Singaporean woman was caught helping a male acquaintance interfere with his breathalyser test after a car crash.

As he had been drinking alcohol before the accident occurred, she offered him a bottle of gin to mask his actual breath alcohol content at the time of the crash.

She was fined S$10,000 in court on Dec. 15.

Drink driving

According to court documents seen by Mothership, Claire Sng Wei Ying, 27, and the man, Samuel Gomes-Lim Jia’En, 35, were involved in the car crash near his home in Dairy Farm on Apr. 14, 2024.

The pair had shared two cans of alcoholic soda at lunch about four hours prior.

After the accident, they left the car and took a lift to an unspecified floor of the condominium, but returned to the accident site after a brief period and headed for the compound's exit.

Some residents and the security caught up with them, prompting Gomes-Lim to run, but he was restrained and made to sit on a bench while waiting for police to arrive.

Interference with breathalyser

During this period, Gomes-Lim instructed Sng to go to his apartment and get him a bottle of alcohol.

She obliged and filled a 750ml gym shaker bottle to about two-thirds full of gin.

Upon her return, Gomes-Lim consumed almost all of the alcohol.

When a traffic police officer arrived, Gomes-Lim shouted that he had consumed alcohol.

This resulted in the officer being unable to determine his actual breath alcohol concentration at the time of the crash, which could have been used as evidence of drink driving.

Regardless, Gomes-Lim was asked to provide his breath sample at about 9pm later that night.

He initially refused and said that he had consumed the alcohol after the accident, but complied after about an hour.

He was found with 73 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than double the limit of 35 micrograms.

His case is pending.

According to The Straits Times, Sng's lawyers asked the court to not place her behind bars, citing that she had not benefited from the crime.

According to charge sheets, she pleaded guilty to performing an act that had a tendency to obstruct the course of justice and was fined S$10,000.
