Hong Kong lawyer, 40, pleads guilty to having sex with underage girl, 12, he met on dating app

A Hong Kong lawyer has pleaded guilty to five offences involving the sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old girl that he had met through a dating application earlier this year, reported South China Morning Post (SCMP).

He also took more than 200 nude photographs and filmed nine explicit videos of the victim.

Met victim on a dating app

Kelvin Luk Kin Ting, 40, a former consultant at law firm HY Leung & Co LLP, admitted in the Hong Kong District Court on Nov. 3 that he had first befriended the girl on the dating app, “Heymandi”, according to SCMP.

When they first met on Mar. 4 in 2024, Luk falsely claimed he was around 28 or 29 years old.

The pair met at Nam Cheong MTR Station before travelling to Ma Wan beach where he kissed her.

Subsequently, Luk took the victim to his high-rise flat at the Park Island residential complex where they engaged in sex.

After dining together, he kissed the girl and told her to undress before sexually assaulting her, including molesting her and having sex with a condom.

During the encounter, Luk had taken 20 nude photographs of the victim.

Second meeting and explicit recordings

The pair stayed in contact after the first meeting and met at the same flat again on Mar. 28.

On this occasion, Luk had suggested the victim perform oral sex after drinking alcohol.

After drinking a few cans of beer “out of curiosity”, according to Dimsum Daily, the girl began to feel dizzy.

Luk then proceeded to have sex with her, removing his condom midway while claiming to be allergic to latex, and also engaged in oral sex.

The court heard that the girl was upset at Luk removing the condom, but he continued with the act regardless, as reported by SCMP.

During this second encounter, Luk took a further 184 nude photographs of the girl and filmed nine videos depicting sexual activity, several of which he later sent to her.

Altogether, 204 photographs and nine video recordings were retrieved by investigators.

Discovery and arrest

The offences came to light on May 4, when the girl’s father found explicit images and messages on her phone.

She admitted that sexual activity had occurred, and the matter was reported to the police the next day.

On May 8, Luk was arrested.

Officers seized his phone and uncovered the illicit material, along with messages in which Luk professed his affection to the girl, asked whether she watched pornography, requested photos of her breasts, and encouraged her to try oral sex while intoxicated.

In the District Court, Luk pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, two counts of making child pornography, and one count of causing a person under 16 to make pornography.

Luk, who has since left his position at HY Leung & Co LLP, remains in custody pending sentencing on Nov. 17 while the court considers his psychological assessments ahead of sentencing, according to Dimsum Daily.

Under Hong Kong law, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
