National Gallery S’pore to reopen most areas to public after fire traced to electrical control panel at level 1

Update: The National Gallery Singapore has fully reopened to the public as of Sep. 10, 2025. 

A fire broke out at the National Gallery Singapore on Sep. 9.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the fire involved an electrical control panel located at level one of the premises.

They were alerted to the fire at about 9:05am.

The fire was extinguished by the premises’ Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) using a dry powder fire extinguisher before SCDF's arrival.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

City Hall Wing and Padang Atrium reopening at 12pm

The National Gallery Singapore announced to the public around 10am that it will be closed until further notice due to the fire.

In an updated media statement, the gallery said that following thorough checks by the SCDF, the City Hall Wing and Padang Atrium of the gallery have been declared safe and will reopen to the public at 12pm today.

"The safety of our visitors, staff, and collections remains our highest priority. We thank everyone for their concern and understanding," it said.

The former Supreme Court Wing is scheduled to reopen to the public on Sep. 10.
