Driver, 54, knocked down parked motorcycles in Bukit Batok hit-and-run, arrested with suspected drugs & vape
He fled the scene but came back to the car park afterwards.
After knocking down two motorcycles at a Bukit Batok Housing and Development Board (HDB) car park on Sep. 5, a driver fled the scene but later returned.
The 54-year-old driver was then arrested by police officers at the car park at Block 301 Bukit Batok Street 31, with suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia and a vape found on him.
Police told Mothership that they were alerted to the hit-and-run accident involving a car and two motorcycles at about 11:10am on Sep. 5.
No injuries were reported.
Hit & run
A witness of the accident, surnamed Zhuo (transliteration from Chinese), told Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min) was driving in the car park when he heard a loud bang coming from behind him.
"The car was going really fast. If I had been slower by one minute, it could have hit me instead," said Zhuo.
According to the footage shared with Shin Min, the suspect's car rounded a corner and struck the kerb, knocking two parked motorcycles onto the walkway beneath the HDB block before driving off.
It was reportedly seen reversing before driving off.
Suspect claimed to be gang member: Resident
A resident whose BMW motorcycle was hit by the car, named Farhan (transliteration), told Shin Min that he found out about the accident from his mother, who heard about it from their neighbours.
When he rushed down to check, the police were already at the car park.
When he went over to speak to the police, the suspect swore at him and claimed to be a "gang member", said Farhan.
"When I passed the vehicle involved, I saw a number of bags containing white powder under the hood, which could be drugs," Farhan told Shin Min.
Farhan said his motorcycle cost about S$33,000.
He added that he would arrange for the motorcycle to be towed as the wheels couldn't turn. He would be filing an insurance claim.
Police statement
Police told Mothership that the 54-year-old man was arrested for driving while under the influence of intoxicating substances.
Police also recovered substances suspected to be controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, and an e-vaporiser from him.
The suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, while the e-vaporiser-related offence will be referred to the Health Sciences Authority, police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
