UPDATE on Sep. 24 at 6:44pm: This article has been updated with new information from the Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council.

A 10-year-old boy in Singapore was injured after he sat on a swing bench in Bishan on Sep. 22.

The boy's left fingertip was reportedly cut off when it got caught between the loose wooden slats of a swing seat, according to Stomp.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the incident occurred near 219 Bishan Street 23.

Workers assisted

Speaking to Stomp, a witness, known as KG, said that the boy, who was "in great pain", had approached two foreign workers who were performing cleaning works nearby with his older brother for assistance.

One of the workers then asked KG to call the ambulance.

According to KG, the worker had remained with the boy and helped to "reassure and calm him".

"Thanks to these two foreign workers from Tong Shing Contractors! Our salute and appreciation to them," KG said.

Swing found to be defective

KG also shared that the swing bench appeared to display some physical defects.

In photos shared to Stomp, the wooden slats appeared to be misaligned.

A few drops of blood could be seen on the seat.

"We have seen many small children using this swing over the past two months and do not want such accidents to ever happen again," KG said, urging the town council to conduct proper reviews to ensure the swing is safe for children.

The swing was reportedly installed under the ongoing Neighbourhood Renewal Programme, and the affected area has been cordoned off.

The town council confirmed that it is currently following up with the relevant contractor.

The spokesperson added that the town council is trying to contact the boy and his family to offer assistance.

"We seek the family to reach out to us at the Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council hotline 62596700."
