A female college student in Subang Jaya, Selangor, in Malaysia, is believed to have been murdered after her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her family home on Aug. 14.

The woman, reportedly in her 20s, was found in the living room on the second floor of the house by her father, who then called the police at about 11:55am, Subang Jaya police confirmed in a statement on Facebook.

Post-mortem reports revealed that the cause of death was by "bleeding around the hyoid bone (neck bone)", the statement said.

Injuries to the woman's muscles and bones were also confirmed to be a result of "manual strangulation".

Subang Jaya's police chief said the woman lived with her sister and cousin at the house, but was alone at the time of her death, state media Bernama reported.

The house also did not appear to be burgled as there was no loss of property.

The incident is being investigated as a murder case, the police chief said.

However, no arrests have been made thus far.

He also advised against public speculation and called upon witnesses to come forward if they have any information.
