Heavy traffic is expected at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints between Aug. 8 and 10 this upcoming 2025 National Day weekend, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Aug. 5.

Travellers are to expect longer waiting times to clear immigration and are advised to check the traffic situation at the land checkpoints before the start of their journey.

ICA also advised travellers who need to travel during the period to consider taking the cross-border bus services to avoid congestion.

"We seek travellers' understanding to cooperate with ICA officers, observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline. ICA will not hesitate to take stern action against travellers who do not comply with officers' instructions and commit offences at the checkpoints," warned ICA.

June school holidays record

During the June school holidays from May 29 to Jul. 1, Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints saw a daily average of more than 525,000 travellers.

This is almost a 10 per cent increase compared to the 2024 June school holidays.

On Jun. 20, a record number of more than 578,000 crossings were made in a single day.

Car travellers departing Singapore during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.

Reminders

To ensure a smoother journey, travellers are reminded to ensure that their passports have a remaining validity of at least six months.

Motorists are advised to refrain from queue-cutting as it can cause severe congestion and compromise the safety of other motorists.

Errant motorists caught queue-cutting will be turned away and made to re-queue, ICA warned.

Those travelling by bus are encouraged to use QR codes for faster and more convenient immigration clearance.

Travellers can use it at QR code-enabled automated lanes and Special Assistance Lanes (SAL) in the bus halls.
