Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums for cars hit their highest in nearly two years in the latest bidding exercise on Aug. 20.
Cat A
Premiums for Category A vehicles or smaller, less powerful cars up to 1,600cc and 130bhp, as well as for EVs with up to 110 kilowatts of power, rose to S$104,524.
This was a 2.5 per cent increase, or S$2,515 from the S$102,009 recorded at the last bidding exercise.
The all-time high of S$106,000 occurred in October 2023.
Cat B
The premium for Category B, for bigger, more powerful cars above 1,600cc or 130bhp, as well as EVs with more than 110 kilowatts of power, went up to S$124,400.
This was a 0.07 per cent increase, or S$902 more than the S$123,498 premium set at the last round.
This type of COE is needed to register larger and more powerful cars and electric vehicles (EVs).
Open Category
The premium for the open category COE price increased to S$125,001, S$2,667, or 2.2 per cent, more than the previous premium of S$122,334.
Open category certificates can be used to register any vehicle type, excluding motorcycles, but they are almost exclusively used for larger, more powerful cars.
The motorcycle COE premium fell to S$8,809, a decrease of 4.3 per cent or S$380 from the previous premium of S$9,189.
The commercial vehicle (Category C) premium rose to S$72,190, an increase of S$2,189 or 3.1 per cent from the previous premium of S$70,001.
