The S.E.A. Aquarium, one of Sentosa's major attractions, is now undergoing a major revamp and is set to be rebranded as the Singapore Oceanarium (SGO) in the third quarter of 2025.

The aquarium, which houses over 100,000 marine animals from over 1,000 species, had its last day on Apr. 30.

Videos and posts about the S.E.A Aquarium's closure have been shared to its social media pages of late, to the consternation of some users.

One video posted to TikTok featured disposable film camera pictures taken by interns on the S.E.A Aquarium's last day.

"Making memories with just 27 shots," read the caption.

The SGO, which will be more than three times the size of its predecessor, is envisioned as a first-class centre for marine biodiversity education and research, conservation and restoration of vulnerable marine organisms and habitats.

It will also offer a larger scale and depth of content than the S.E.A Aquarium, making use of "state-of-the-art digital innovation and interactive technology".

According to the S.E.A Aquarium website, ticket bookings are currently unavailable as the revamp is underway.

The SGO is slated to open in Q3 2025, with more details to be shared when ready.

What you can expect

Based on previous reports on the SGO, visitors can expect to learn about the evolution of marine creatures, the different oceanic zones such as the unexplored deep ocean, and Singapore's unique coastal ecosystems through "immersive and multi-sensory story-telling".

SGO also intends to engage the community through seminars and workshops from its explorers in-residence and visiting scientists.

It will comprise a multi-zone immersive exhibition and a research and learning centre, according to Genting Singapore's 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April 2023.
