Bengawan Solo has over 40 stores in Singapore.
The iconic cake shop is known for its pandan cakes and has been around since the 1970s.
It even made it to CNN's favourite cake article back in 2017.
Apparently, there's a pandan cake craze in 2025 now, with CNN once again reporting on the popularity of the treat.
CNN wrote: "Singapore’s pandan cake craze is going global. Meet the family that sparked a spongey revolution."
The piece surfaced the possibility of pandan becoming a big food craze globally.
CNN cited Keri Matwick, an Nanyang Technological University (NTU) senior lecturer who researches food and language, who said "it might be pandan's turn to go global".
They also talked to the Bengawan Solo folks, founder Anastasia Liew and company director Henry Liew.
Liew revealed that more than half of their sales come from the five outlets they have in Changi Airport.
According to CNN, in 2024, they sold about 85,000 whole pandan chiffon cakes at S$22 each, and achieved a sales revenue of about S$76 million, up 11 per cent from 2023.
He also said he did not think they could grow "very much more" in Singapore, and are instead planning to focus on selling their products as food gifts across Asia.
