People’s Action Party (PAP)’s Xie Yao Quan is set to contest Jurong Central Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the upcoming General Elections.
Xie was officially introduced as an electoral candidate on Apr. 14 for PAP in the newly formed Jurong Central SMC.
Xie, 40, was elected in the 2020 General Election (GE) and currently helms the Jurong Central division of Jurong GRC.
Jurong GRC was dissolved following the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s (EBRC) report, with its estates also being absorbed by Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC, Jurong Central SMC, and West Coast-Jurong West GRC.
Potential face-off with Red Dot United
Xie might potentially be facing off with opposition party Red Dot United (RDU)’s Emily Woo.
RDU previously announced its intention to contest Jurong Central SMC in the upcoming GE.
RDU introduced Woo, a 59-year-old piano teacher, during a walkabout at Yuhua Market and Hawker Centre.
The party noted that Woo will be doing most of the ground work in the SMC ahead of the election, and will be taking the lead in the area.
