83-year-old Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong showed up at the People's Action Party (PAP) rally at Chua Chu Kang Avenue 4 to give support to manpower minister Tan See Leng who is helming the PAP team contesting Chua Chu Kang GRC.

The PAP candidates for Chua Chu Kang GRC consist of Tan, Jeffrey Siow, Choo Pei Ling, and Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim.

Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling was also present, and she is contesting Bukit Gombak SMC.

Besides ESM Goh, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also made appearance and gave a speech to seek Chua Chu Kang residents' support for the PAP team.

"He's a good person, good man. Please support him": PM Wong on Tan See Leng

PM Wong addressed concerns about DPM Gan Kim Yong's departure from Chua Chu Kang GRC – where he had been the MP for close to 20 years– to contest Punggol GRC.

He explained that he needed a steady and experienced leader to anchor not just Punggol, but the entire north east area. DPM Gan was the best person to do so, he added.

However, he wants to sure Chua Chu Kang is in good hands, so he decided to deploy Tan over.

"I would not leave Chua Chu Kang [GRC] without someone capable to carry [out] the work here. And that's why I looked around my team and I decided the best person to come here is none other than Tan See Leng," PM Wong said.

"He's worked in Marine Parade for the last five years, and that's why ESM is here – ESM can vouch for it," PM Wong added.

PM Wong also added that after Tan got to work "right away" after GE2020.

As the manpower minister, Tan helped manage the situation in migrant workers' dormitories during Covid-19 and strengthened fair employment safeguards, boosted upgrading training and job opportunities for Singaporeans, PM Wong said.

"He's a good person, good man. Please support him," PM Wong added.

Both DPM Gan and Tan are members of the new Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce (SERT), which aims to help local businesses and workers navigate the current uncertain global economic landscape.

I need your support to keep improve this whole area: PM Wong

PM Wong also quipped that he will be Chua Chu Kang residents' "neighbour" if he gets elected in Marsiling-Yew Tee.

Chua Chu Kang GRC and Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC are both part of Chua Chu Kang town under the Housing & Development Board's plan, so "we are one big family", PM Wong said.

To effectively coordinate improvements in the area, the GRCs have to be anchored by the PAP teams, so he urged residents to vote for PAP.
