Girl, 14, allegedly approached by 'strange uncle' in Hougang for 2 months, police report lodged
The man also lodged a police report.

A woman filed a police report after her 14-year-old daughter told her that she had been approached by a "strange uncle" for two months while on her way to school.
Man filed police report after girl's mother took to social media to share about her daughter's experience
According to the girl's mother, surnamed Wu (transliteration from Mandarin), since Chinese New Year, the man would meet her daughter at the playground near Block 531, Hougang Avenue 6 when she was going to school, Shin Min Daily News reported.
Whenever the man saw her daughter, he would supposedly follow her closely, praise her appearance and ask for her phone number.
In response, the man, aged 62, surnamed Lin (transliteration from Mandarin), told Shin Min that he felt he had a good relationship, which was why he talked to her.
He also stressed that he did not stalk her and filed a police report when his photo and the experience of the woman's daughter with him was posted on social media.
According to Lin, his reputation had been damaged.
Mother: My daughter was afraid
Wu added that her daughter was afraid but chose to remain silent until Mar. 26, when she eventually told her mother what had happened.
Wu said she was shocked upon learning what had happened.
However, her daughter also said she had not been molested by the man.
Shin Min reported that every morning, the man would appear below their block and follow the girl.
Twice to thrice a week, he would also talk to her daughter.
Wu claimed: "He would ask my daughter which school she is attending, (and) what's her phone number. When my daughter refused, he asked her to tell him the last four digits of her phone number, saying he want to use it to buy 4D."
Wu also highlighted that her daughter was crying when she recounted her experience.
Wu made a police report afterwards.
In addition, she also started accompanying her daughter to school every day and taught her to change routes and timing to avoid the "strange uncle".
On a few occasions, she saw the man sitting near the playground looking around after she had sent her daughter to school.
"My daughter also said she saw him waiting at the playground for her when she was taking the bus," Wu added.
Wu's friend also intervened by posting on social media about the girl's experience with the man, along with his photo.
Man: If they are unhappy, they should talk to me directly
As for Lin, he said he did not do anything illegal and those who posted about him should not have made his photos public which he claimed has damaged his reputation.
He added that he had filed the police report on Apr. 8, and had done so out of anger, as well as on the advice of his wife and children.
Lin said:
"If they have any complaints, they should talk to me directly. I have a family, my children are in their 20s and 30s, and I have a grandchild who is one to two years old."
In response to Lin, Wu said she did not accept his explanation and felt that it was inappropriate behaviour for him, even if he only wanted to make friends with her daughter.
Lin also should not wait downstairs for her daughter everyday and called for him to stop.
Wu said she would remove the post subsequently.
