The People's Action Party (PAP) held its Fullerton lunchtime rally at noon on Apr. 28, making it the first in 10 years that a rally has been held at UOB Plaza’s promenade.

This was after Covid-19 curtailed plans for outdoor rallies to be held in the 2020 general election.

The rally in the central business district is known as the Fullerton rally due to its proximity to Fullerton Square, and has been a part of Singapore politics since the 1950s.

This is also Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's first speech at the lunchtime rally since he became prime minister.

In his speech, he spoke about concerns that Singaporeans may have and vowed that the government will continue to support them through "a new storm" ahead.

PM Wong also highlighted the impact on having more opposition in Parliament and why a clear mandate is important for him and his team in advancing Singapore's interests abroad.

Who went?

In attendance at the rally was Chia Yun Kai, the man behind Most Valuable Party (MVP), who subsequently joined the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) in contesting Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.

At one point Chia was overhead commenting that he did not support the PAP.

When asked by a rally goer why was he not supportive but in attendance, Chia clarified that he was a SDA candidate.
