You can ‘wander’ outer space & have your mind blown at Science Centre S’pore from now till Mar. 23
A taste of the “overview effect”.
Going to space has always been one of my distant childhood dreams.
But, looking at my paltry bank account, I’m roughly 50 million dollars away, or more, from actually buying a ticket to a space shuttle.
Fortunately, you don’t need to be a millionaire to ‘experience’ crossing the Karman line.
At Science Centre Singapore, you can blast off into space via a virtual reality (VR) experience instead - and it’s a pretty immersive one too.
But you’ll need to hurry, as this VR experience is leaving the Science Centre soon.
“Space Explorers: THE INFINITE”, the world’s largest free-roaming space exploration VR experience, is putting out a final boarding call before it wraps up on Mar. 23, 2025.
So, you have less than two weeks to catch the experience.
You even get to ‘walk’ on the ISS
The VR experience is based on real National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) missions.
Visitors will also be able to experience a 3D spacewalk in 360-degree virtual reality outside the International Space Station (ISS).
It will also allow you to experience the ‘Overview Effect’; that feeling of magic and wonder astronauts get when looking down on Earth from outer space.
You will also get to witness the Artemis I liftoff, a lunar expedition by NASA that was launched in 2022.
Part of the experience allows you to “freely wander” the ISS via capsules filmed in VR, and rub shoulders with the astronauts in orbit.
Okay, beam me up Scotty - but how do you get a ticket?
If you’re interested, you can buy tickets for the experience here.
Do take note that you need to be nine and above to attend this experience.
Ticket prices start as low as S$23.10 when you purchase a group bundle for four or more tickets.
Standard tickets start from S$28 for children (9–12 years, with an accompanying adult) and from S$33 for those aged 13 and above.
Flying solo instead? Get 10 per cent off individual tickets with the special discount code ‘MS10OFF’ at checkout.
Since you’ll have to don a VR casket, there are glasses requirements for attending the experience:
- Width: 142mm or less
- Height: 50mm or less
Contact lenses, by the way, are recommended.
You are also advised to dress comfortably and wear some comfortable shoes.
There are lockers provided before entry for convenience.
