Man climbs over Boon Lay MRT station platform screen door to retrieve phone from tracks
Safety first.
A man climbed over the platform screen doors at Boon Lay MRT station to retrieve his phone from the tracks.
According to a Facebook post by SMRT, the incident occurred on Mar. 13 at 8:15am.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the man had accidentally dropped his phone onto the MRT tracks and scaled over the platform screen doors.
He then retrieved his phone and climbed back up onto the platform.
A commuter activated the emergency stop plunger once the man climbed over the doors and the oncoming train was stopped in time.
SMRT staff then intervened, detained the passenger and alerted the police.
"We take a serious view of this incident as track trespassing poses severe safety risks. The individual could have been hit by a train or electrocuted by the high-voltage traction power from the third rail. Such reckless actions not only endanger lives but can also cause service disruptions, affecting many commuters. Additionally, when emergency brakes are applied, there is a risk of injury to passengers onboard the train," said president of SMRT trains Lam Sheau Kai.
Lam reminded commuters to stay clear of the tracks and not attempt to retrieve items that have fallen onto them.
Commuters should seek assistance from staff regarding fallen items and note that item retrieval can only be done at the end of the day.
