A 44-year-old man, accused of importing 154 replica guns into Singapore without a permit, will be charged in court on Mar. 6, 2025.

This was announced by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a Mar. 5 news release.

Allegedly sold replica guns online

The police said they received information relating to the sales of replica guns on an e-commerce platform on May 11, 2023.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Central Police Division established the seller's identity.

The officers raided the accused's residence along Race Course Lane on May 26, 2023, and seized a total of 154 replica guns and related accessories.

Police approval required for importing replica guns

The man will be charged with the offence under the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations, which stipulates that police approval is required for the importation of replica guns.

First-time offenders could be fined up to S$100,000 or three times the value of the goods in respect of the committed offence, whichever is greater, jailed for up to two years, or both.

Repeat offenders could be fined up to S$200,000 or four times the value of the goods in respect of the committed offence, whichever is greater, jailed for up to three years, or both.

The police also reminded members of the public that police will not approve the import of any toy or replica guns that bear close resemblance to actual firearms for public safety reasons.

Carrying items, such as replica guns, in public areas may also cause unnecessary alarm and be deemed as offensive weapons depending on circumstances in which they are found.

If the person carrying the item is unable to provide a reasonable explanation, the person may also be liable for offences under the Protection from Harassment Act 2014 and/or the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
