A man who flashed a Singapore Airlines stewardess on a flight has been sentenced to three weeks in prison.

The 23-year-old Indonesian national, Brilliant Angjaya, pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual exposure, CNA reported.

The incident occurred on Jan. 23, on a flight from China to Singapore.

Details about the air stewardess and the flight in question cannot be revealed due to a gag order.

What happened during the flight?

According to court documents, Angjaya had two glasses of champagne before falling asleep.

When he woke up, he headed to the toilet to relieve himself where he thought about recording a video of himself showing his genitals to someone and capturing the reaction.

At around 4:45am, he returned to his seat and put his phone on recording mode with the back camera pointing at the walkway.

He then unzipped his jeans and exposed his genitals.

Shortly afterwards, the victim approached Angjaya with an in-flight meal.

She was shocked upon seeing his exposed genitals and looked in the opposite direction.

She also quickly pulled out the foldable table to place the in-flight meal and left.

The air stewardess also noticed the mobile phone and reported the matter to her supervisor.

When approached by the supervisor, Ang denied recording the incident but handed over his phone for inspection.

The supervisor then found the videos of the incident.

He was arrested upon arrival.

Prosecution calls for sentence of four to six weeks' imprisonment

In their sentencing submissions, the prosecution called for an imprisonment term of four to six weeks and highlighted how he had committed his offence on an aircraft, against a public transport worker, his intoxicated status, and the fact that he had recorded the incident.

Meanwhile, Angjaya's defence lawyer, Navin Shamugaraj Thevar, was quoted by CNA as calling for a sentence of two to three weeks in prison.

According to Thevar, Angjaya's culpability was lower as he did not intend to obtain sexual gratification.

Thevar also read out an apology letter by Angjaya in court, in which he expressed regret and said he was not in the "right state of mind" at the time of the incident.

Angjaya also said he was "very sad and troubled" on the flight as he had made friends in China and did not know when he would see them again, after studying there for five months.

During sentencing, the judge was quoted by The Straits Times as saying that the alarm caused by Angjaya had been heightened by the fact that it took place in business class, where the cabin crew would have greater personal contact with the passengers.

He also noted that Angjaya had "contemplated" about how someone might react to his indecent exposure.

The judge accepted that Angjaya had shown genuine remorse, however.

Angjaya was also allowed to call his father after sentencing.
