Building under construction collapses in Bangkok after 7.7 magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar
Authorities are monitoring for aftershocks.
Panic broke out in Bangkok as a high-rise building under construction in the Chatuchak district collapsed following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on Mar. 28.
Reuters reported that the earthquake's epicentre was about 17.2 km from the city of Mandalay in central Myanmar, and it had a depth of 10 km.
Tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok in neighbouring Thailand, CNN reported.
43 workers were trapped after a high-rise building in Bangkok collapsed.
Building collapsed from tremors
The building, the Office of the Auditor General, which was still under construction, collapsed as a result of the tremors, Khaosod reported.
A video of the incident showed passersby running away as the building collapsed.

43 workers were trapped after the unfinished 30-storey building collapsed, BBC and The Nation Thailand reported.
It is estimated that nearly 100 workers were present at the time of the collapse.
Rescue efforts are ongoing.

Other footage from Bangkok showed pool water cascading down hotel buildings as a result of the tremors.

Witnesses in Bangkok told Reuters that even hotel guests in bathrobes and swimming costumes were seen running out onto the streets in panic.
A 91-year-old bridge, known as the old Sagaing Bridge, also collapsed on Mar. 28, with parts of it falling into the Irrawaddy river, according to CNN.
In a Mar. 28 X post, Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced that she would be holding an emergency meeting with relevant agencies regarding the situation.
