More than 100 commuters gather enthusiastically for Hume MRT station's opening

More than a 100 commuters gathered at the entrance of Hume Station, minutes before its official opening for passenger service at 3pm on Feb. 28.
The station is located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, between Hillview and Beauty World stations on the Downtown Line.

Videos posted to Telegram and Facebook showed commuters waiting in anticipation outside the station's entrance minutes before its opening.
Some cheered gleefully when the gates finally opened.

In another video, an excited student can be heard chanting "Open! Open!" as a train pulls into the station.
Local news outlets CNA and The Straits Times reported that more than 100 commuters were seen waiting outside the station before its opening at 3pm.
40 among them had arrived as early as 45 minutes before.
A day before the station's opening, a special blessing ceremony was held by religious leaders from major faiths in Singapore.
"Their prayers and blessings extended to the station, its staff, and all commuters who will soon travel through this new addition to our transport network," said Low Yen Ling, Member of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC in a Facebook post on the same day.
Community leaders, as well as senior management from SBS Transit and the Land Transport Authority, were also present.
Some residents from Hume Park 2 were also given the opportunity to visit the MRT station some days before its official opening.

Residents travelling from Hume can now reach the downtown area in around 30 minutes on DTL, saving up to 15 minutes of travel time.
With the completion of Hume station, DTL will have a total of 35 operational stations.
Extensions to connect the DTL with the Thomson-East Coast Line and the North-South Line are under construction and scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026 and 2035, respectively.
