There comes a time when you see your life flash before your eyes.

A man in Indonesia experienced just that when a snake latched itself onto his private parts, refusing to let go.

RIP future

The incident was shared by Instagram account @jejaksiaden and has been viewed some 28 million times.

The Indonesia-based content creator commonly shares videos of his interactions with snakes.

The video in question shows a black snake with yellow stripes latching tightly onto a man's private area.

The man can be seen clutching the snake, attempting to pull it away from him to no avail.

The video ended without showing if the man was able to pull the snake off him.

In the caption, the user wrote: "RIP future".

Ouch

Many commenters were bewildered by the situation.

One commenter pointed, however, that the snake appeared to be latching onto the man's pants and not his private area.

"It looks like only his pants was bitten."

Mangrove snake

Some commenters quipped that the snake is possibly a mangrove snake and "mildly venomous".

Mangrove snakes are commonly found across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

They inhabit mangrove forests, riverine areas, and lowland forests.

They spend most of their time on tree branches of 30 metres or higher but descend at night to hunt.

The mangrove snakes hunt a variety of prey, including other snakes, lizards, birds, and small mammals.

Native to Singapore, this species of snake has been spotted in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Keep your distance if you encounter a snake in a public area or home.

Do not approach or attempt to handle the snake and call NParks at 1800-476-1600 if you need assistance.
