A cyclist without a helmet was filmed riding recklessly along Bayfront Ave on Jan. 26 at around 10pm.

According to video footage shared online, he was observed to have been straddling the double yellow line along the left-most lane of the road, while not fully keeping left at times.

Although he appeared to be in control initially, he started to wobble as he picked up speed along the downslope portion of the road.

He then tried to pull off a wheelie, a trick where the front wheel is lifted off the ground while riding on the rear wheel only.

He continued the stunt downslope, while occasionally lifting his right leg.

As he approached a pedestrian crossing to turn left onto Raffles Avenue, he glanced back before braking abruptly, seemingly trying to stop.

He then skidded along the wet road and stumbled as he tried to drift left onto the pedestrian walkway, but regained his balance.

Responses

Most comments condemned the cyclist, criticising him for recklessly endangering both himself and others.

Failing to ride in an orderly manner or to wear a suitable helmet can each result in a fine of up to S$1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both.

For repeat offences, the penalties double to a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
