Singapore's Changi Airport was ranked the world's fourth busiest international airport in 2024, according to aviation data provider OAG Aviation.

According to the company, it ranked airports around the world based on the scheduled seating capacity of their international flights.

With a seating capacity of 41.5 million, Changi Airport was also the second busiest international airport in Asia Pacific last year, falling only behind South Korea's Incheon International Airport.

Globally, Dubai International Airport topped the chart with a seating capacity of 60.2 million, while London Heathrow Airport scored second with a seating capacity of 48.4 million.

Details of the ranking

According to OAG Aviation, compared to its 2023 ranking, both Dubai International Airport and London Heathrow Airport retained their respective titles in 2024.

Incheon International Airport moved up four spots in last year's chart after its international flights' seating capacity soared by 24 per cent to 41.6 million.

Similarly, Changi Airport was ranked one place higher in 2024 after its seating capacity increased by 15 per cent.

Amongst the top 10 busiest international airports in 2024, Hong Kong International Airport experienced the most significant jump in seating capacity — a whopping 40 per cent — from 2023 statistics.

With a seating capacity of 34.6 million, the airport was ranked the ninth busiest international airport last year.

Busiest international flight routes at Changi Airport

Earlier in December 2024, OAG Aviation also released its ranking for the world's busiest international flight routes for the year.

At the time, the company said it computed the ranking based on the scheduled airline seats for both directions on each route.

For Changi Airport, the busiest routes are Kuala Lumpur-Singapore, Jakarta-Singapore, and Bangkok-Singapore.
