Man, 33, allegedly attacked & injured 2 police officers in Clementi who found drugs & weapon on him
He turned aggressive when the officers attempted to arrest him.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking and injuring two police officers.
According to the police, officers from the Clementi Police Division were conducting anti-crime patrols in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 3 on Dec. 16 at around 12:50pm when they noticed the man.
They proceeded to conduct checks on him and found suspected controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a pair of thread scissors.
A mobile phone, which allegedly did not belong to the man, was also found in his possession.
When the officers attempted to arrest him, the man reportedly refused to cooperate and became aggressive.
Allegedly punched and kicked 2 officers
The man allegedly punched and kicked two officers during the arrest.
After his arrest, the man also allegedly spat at another officer.
A 23-year-old officer sustained injuries to his face and chest, while another 24-year-old officer sustained injuries to his head, chest and forearm, police said.
Both officers were subsequently discharged with three days of medical leave.
Charged
The man is set to be charged in court on Dec. 18.
He faces two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharging their duty and one count of using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty.
Additionally, he is under investigation for possessing an offensive weapon and fraudulent possession of property.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) is also conducting investigations into suspected drug-related offences.
"The police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence towards police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties. The police will not hesitate to take firm action against those who endanger the safety of our officers," the police said.
