Archbishop Emeritus Nicolas Chia died at St Theresa's Home on the evening of Dec. 17, 2024.
He was 86.
The news of Chia's passing was announced by Cardinal William Goh on his Telegram channel.
In his message, Goh wrote: "I am deeply grieved to announce the passing of His Grace, Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Chia. He passed away peacefully this evening at St Theresa’s Home. He was 86 years old."
Goh added: "Let us pray for the repose of [Chia's] soul. May perpetual light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace."
He also shared that arrangements for the public to pay their respects and the funeral proceedings will be announced later.
Earlier on the same day, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore posted on Instagram that Chia was "critically ill".

According to the archdiocese's website, Chia was the first Singapore-born clergy to be appointed to the position of archbishop.
In May 2013, Chia, who was then 75, retired after passing the torch to Goh.
