We asked S’poreans to share their favourite food delivery experiences & they were surprisingly wholesome
Delivering food and more.
When it comes to food delivery, one may not think of it as an opportunity for meaningful connections or memorable experiences.
After all, in this busy little red dot we call Singapore, many of us prefer receiving our orders swiftly and with minimal interaction.
But a little kindness goes a long way, and sometimes it comes in the form of a delivery rider.
To shine a light on these moments, we asked our colleagues to share their most heartwarming experiences with food delivery.
The quiet bravery of a delivery hero
One story stood out for its thoughtfulness and quiet bravery.
Our colleague, Winnie Li, shared her experience with a delivery rider whose profile mentioned he had hearing and speaking impairments.
While she usually avoids ordering food when it is raining out of concern for riders, the heavy rain occurred abruptly on that day.
"Despite braving the rain, he texted me politely to let me know my delivery had arrived. I tipped him afterward and wrote him an encouraging note saying, 'Life is hard, but let’s brave it,'" she said.
She added that she was particularly impressed by how polite he was.
A little goes a long way
While not all deliveries are made equal, sometimes a rider's dedication can turn a negative situation into a positive one.
Another colleague, Ilyda Chua, shared a story about ordering drinks from a merchant that took a bit longer than expected.
She then politely asked the rider if he could check on it, and he kindly agreed.
"Within 15 minutes, the drink was on my desk," she quipped, adding that the rider’s act turned the wait into a positive experience.
As someone who orders food delivery often, I too have my share of heartwarming moments.
I remember a time when I had been working late on a project, and the delivery rider brought me more than just my late-night meal.
When I opened the door to receive the delivery, he joked that I looked like I was solving the mysteries of the universe and reminded me not to forget my meals.
It was just what I needed at that moment.
These stories remind us that food delivery isn’t just about convenience — it's about connection, kindness, and sometimes even a little bit of magic.
