S'pore man, 71, threatened to blind wife, 74, with fork after she didn't give him money for lottery tickets
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail.

Angered that his wife wouldn't give him money to buy lottery tickets, a 71-year-old man in Singapore flew into a rage and attacked his 74-year-old wife.
The man faced three charges, including voluntarily causing hurt and assault, reported Shin Min Daily News.
He pleaded guilty to one of them, with the rest taken into consideration for sentencing.
He was ultimately sentenced to 12 weeks in jail.
A gag order has been placed on both their identities to protect the wife's identity.
Beat her often
The couple had been married for about 50 years and had two children and five grandchildren, Shin Min reported.
The man reportedly began abusing his wife as early as 2020, and would beat her whenever he was angry.
According to Shin Min, this happened about once every two or three months.
The wife was afraid that the abuse would become worse if she reported it to the police, so she chose to remain silent.
The incident
The man had asked his wife for cash to buy lottery tickets at home on Jul. 12, 2025, at around 9pm.
His wife refused as she did not have enough cash on hand.
Upon hearing this, the man reportedly flew into a rage and slapped his wife twice on the left cheek, and then punched her twice on the left side of the head.
He then picked up a fork and threatened to blind his wife.
Despite his wife trying to raise her left hand to protect her face, the man reportedly bit her left arm and hit her head with a thermos.
She fled to the kitchen, but he pursued her, hitting her forehead with a plastic stool.
The attack only ended when the victim called her son for help.
Went to hospital
Two days later, the victim told her daughter-in-law, a senior nurse, that she had bruising and swelling around her left eyelid and asked how she could reduce the swelling.
After learning that her father-in-law had been abusing her mother-in-law, the daughter-in-law first took the victim to the hospital for medical treatment.
She subsequently reported the matter to the police, Shin Min reported.
The victim was diagnosed with facial and scalp contusions, bruising on her left arm, and a fractured nasal bone.
