S'porean teacher, 41, charged for sending sexual images to 16-year-old male student

A Singaporean man was charged on Aug. 11 with sending sexual images to a 16-year-old male student and possessing obscene videos.

The 41-year-old former teacher cannot be named due to a gag order placed on his identity and that of the alleged victim.

Charge sheets seen by Mothership stated that between Dec. 11, 2024 and Dec. 12, 2024, the man allegedly sent the boy four photographs as one-time view images via Instagram.

This comprised two photographs of a male person in his underwear and two photographs of a male person's genitals.

Between February 2025 and August 2025, the man is said to have downloaded 21 obscene videos via the Telegram application onto his mobile phone.

These were found in his possession when his mobile phone was seized on Aug. 18, 2025.

Suspended and no longer teaching

The Ministry of Education (MOE) told Mothership that the man has been "interdicted from duty" since August 2025 and is no longer teaching in any school.

"MOE takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service," it added.

For sexual communication with a person above the age of 16 but below the age of 18, an offender can be sentenced to up to two years’ imprisonment, fined, or both.

Those found possessing an obscene film can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$20,000, or both.

If they knew the film was obscene, the maximum penalty increases to 12 months’ imprisonment, a S$40,000 fine, or both.
