Sec school students return man's lost wallet to doorstep after tracking him down through NRIC

Editor’s note: Our earlier version of this article quoted the TikTok user praising the students for returning the wallet with its contents intact. Subsequently, another online user alleged that this was untrue, and that the students in fact did take some money from the wallet.

The TikTok user has since confirmed with Mothership that the students took the money from the wallet, a detail omitted from the now-deleted post. However, the students have returned the money and both parties have resolved this matter.

A TikTok user praised a group of secondary school students after they returned a lost wallet to him.

They'd apparently tracked him down via the address shown on his National Registration Identity Card (NRIC), and made the trip down to deliver it to his door.

Found the wallet on a bus

In CCTV footage posted on TikTok, three male students were seen standing outside a flat.

They rang the doorbell and knocked on the door several times, but no one answered.

One of the students then noticed a camera outside the flat and suggested showing the wallet to whoever may be monitoring it.

"Can show (the wallet to) the camera, I think they're looking through the camera," he could be heard saying.

Another student, who was holding the wallet, then turned towards the camera and raised it.

"Your wallet right? Eh bro got everything inside. Your money also inside, I never steal. Don't worry. Come and take your wallet bro," he said.

A few seconds later, someone could be heard speaking to the students over the intercom, although the conversation was muffled.

The same student then explained that they had found the wallet on Bus 129 a few days earlier.

"After that we just follow your NRIC address, then we come here (to) try and give it to you," he said.

Online claims

In a caption accompanying the video, the TikTok user expressed gratitude to the students for returning it with its contents intact.

"I am incredibly grateful that you returned my lost wallet with everything intact. Your honesty and kindness mean more to me than you know," the caption read.

However, following a series of online posts contesting his claims, the user admitted that the students did remove some money from the wallet.

He had omitted the fact from his original post as he was still "glad that they [passed] back the wallet", he told Mothership.
