Local actress Ya Hui announced that her mother has passed away.
Taking to Instagram on Jul. 11, Ya Hui said goodbye to her mother and wrote a touching tribute in Mandarin.
Ya Hui thanked her mum, adding that while the latter's journey has been "really tough", she's "braver than anyone else".
"If there is a next life, I still want to be your daughter. If there is no next life, I will still use this life to live the way you taught me," the actress added.
"I will never be able to hear you say my name again. But I know that you will still be around, looking after me in a different way."
The actress also revealed that she had just been called mushy and sentimental by her mum the day before for saying "I love you".
"But I still want to say it: I really really love you... I will love you forever."
Thought was her grandma
In an earlier post on Jul. 7, Ya Hui spoke more about celebrating Parents' Day with in June, and her experiences growing up.
She recalled that her classmates would often mistake her mother for her grandmother whenever she picked her up from school.
"When I was younger, my friends would tease me every time my mum came to pick me up from school, saying, 'Your grandma is here!'" she wrote.
Looking back, the actress admitted that she was young and naive then, and often felt embarrassed because her parents were older than those of her classmates.
She had even asked her mother to wait outside the school, instead of going in to fetch her.
Even after growing up, people still occasionally mistake her mother for her grandmother.
But unlike before, Ya Hui corrected them proudly:
"I'll say it loudly: 'That's my mum!'"
She added that she would sometimes joke: "She's so pretty, you can't tell we're mother and daughter?"
Ya Hui also thanked her parents for giving her "the best genes".
