Domestic worker, 24, puts child, then aged 1, on Admiralty block ledge, gets 2 months 2 weeks' jail

A 24-year-old Indonesian domestic worker was sentenced to two months and two weeks' jail after she placed her employer's crying one-year-old boy on the parapet ledge of a staircase landing at a block of flats in Admiralty.

Charge sheets and court documents seen by Mothership stated that Lihsna Ayu Indahsari pleaded guilty on Jul. 23 to one charge of violating the Children and Young Persons Act 1993.

There is a gag order on the victim's identity.

'Extremely dangerous act'

Court documents stated that at the time of her offence, Lihsna's duties while employed by the victim's family, included taking care of the victim.

At around 12pm on May 18, 2026, at Block 468C Admiralty Drive, she was carrying the boy to calm him down as he was crying.

Lihsna observed that the boy leaned forwards towards the parapet ledge, which she understood to mean he wanted to see the birds flying overhead.

She then decided to place the toddler on the parapet ledge at a staircase landing between the fifth and sixth floors of the block, for around five minutes.

According to court documents, she did not leave the boy unattended during this period and he did not sustain any injury.

At around 12:27pm that day, a complainant, who lived in the block and was unrelated to Lihsna and the victim, lodged a police report.

It stated that he had witnessed the accused carrying the child and putting the child on the parapet ledge of a staircase landing and that he believed this to be an extremely dangerous act.

Ill treatment of young toddler

The police had previously confirmed with Mothership that a report was lodged.

The woman was arrested on Jul. 7, held in police custody until she was first produced in court on Jul. 8, and has been remanded since then.

Court documents stated that prior to her offence, there were no other reported instances of her ill-treatment of the victim.

It added that the case was an isolated, brief incident of ill-treatment of a young toddler, where the accused's conduct constituted an appalling lapse in proper judgment in ensuring the victim's physical safety and well-being.

As such, the prosecution sought a sentence of between three and five months' jail, and had no objections to the sentence being backdated to the accused's date of arrest.
