Sold-out limited-edition plush toys from Australian artist CJ Hendry's "Juju World" exhibition were being listed online by resellers for as much as S$2,888 each.

The collectable blind boxes, originally priced at S$39, have become highly sought after due to the low odds of obtaining a hidden-edition plush toy.

Some Carousell sellers are also listing bundles containing the regular plush toy, hidden edition, and a large plush toy for S$3,888.

Blind boxes sold out

"Juju World" is currently being held at the IMBA Theatre in Gardens by the Bay from Jun. 20 to Jul. 18.

The immersive exhibition follows the success of Hendry's "Fluffy Flower Market", which also drew large crowds in Singapore this year.

Weekend tickets for "Juju World" sold out quickly, while the S$39 blind box plush toys and S$99 collectables have also sold out and are only available for pre-order, Shin Min Daily News reported.

Meanwhile, the standard yellow Juju plush toy is being resold for around S$300, while the rare hidden edition has been listed for as much as S$2,888.

Visitors to the exhibition can also take home miniature Juju rubber balls from the ball pit as complimentary souvenirs.

Some of these have also appeared on Carousell, with asking prices ranging from S$1 to S$8 each.

Artist prefers increasing supply over creating scarcity

Responding to Shin Min via email, Hendry said she has no control over what happens to the collectables after they leave the exhibition and she does not intend to impose restrictions to discourage reselling.

Instead, she hopes more people will be able to experience her work.

"The idea behind Juju World is to let more people access our artwork, which is why there are free plush toys in the ball pit, and the prices are much lower than the prices of my paintings," she said.

Hendry added that she would rather increase supply than rely on scarcity as a sales strategy.
