A Chinese national was charged in court on Jun. 11 for allegedly offering a bribe to an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer to gain entry into Singapore.

Lin Zekun, 34, allegedly offered S$200 to one Inspector Goh on May 18 after he was denied entry into the country at Woodlands Checkpoint, according to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

Goh rejected the bribe and referred the case to CPIB.

For his actions, Lin faces one charge under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which can result in a jail term of up to five years, a fine of up to S$100,000, or both.

"Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption," said the CPIB.

The Bureau looks into all corruption-related complaints and reports, including anonymous ones, that are lodged online.
