A 41-year-old man in Singapore was slated to be charged on Apr. 8 after he allegedly pocketed his client's insurance premium payments.
In a news release on Apr. 7, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that a woman was reportedly unable to claim S$56,444 in outstanding medical bills under her personal insurance policy in September 2025.
The agent had apparently placed her in a corporate plan without her being employed under the company.
Woman allegedly unable to claim S$56,000 in medical bills
The man's acts came to light after the woman filed a report with Bedok Police Division on Sep. 17, 2025.
She was unsuccessful in claiming her outstanding medical bills under her personal insurance policy despite having made premium payments to an insurance agent.
Investigations revealed that the man had allegedly failed to secure a personal insurance policy for her.
Instead, he purportedly placed her under a corporate hospital plan without her knowledge.
She was not employed by the company linked to the plan.
As a result, the insurance company did not honour the claim she submitted.
The man had allegedly pocketed the premium payments she had made.
He will be charged with criminal breach of trust as an agent on Apr. 8.
If found guilty, he may be jailed up to 20 years and also fined.
