Child gets her foot trapped in Bugis Junction escalator, rescued by SCDF & sent to hospital

The affected escalator has been closed off for now.

A child got her right foot trapped at the side of an escalator in Bugis Junction on Apr. 22, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

In response to Mothership's queries, SCDF said they received received a call for assistance at 20 Victoria Street at about 12:30pm.

Using rescue equipment, they released the child's foot and conveyed her to the hospital.

A video of the incident, filmed by a witness, showed at least five SCDF personnel along the side of the escalator, which had stopped operations by that time.

Workers in helmets opened up the escalator to free the child's foot.

The child, who appeared distraught, was comforted by a woman beside her.

In response to Mothership's queries, a Bugis Junction spokesperson said the shopper's footwear was caught while riding the escalator.

As a safety precaution, the affected escalator has been closed for the time being.

The mall has also been in touch with the family to provide assistance and support.
