Speaking to Mothership, Teoh said the fire alarm went off around 3:35pm and smoke started spreading through the mall around 3:40pm.
The smoke appeared to have come from level one or two of the mall, he said.
Teoh added that the shoppers were not evacuated and and he did not observe any casualties.
Small fire incident
Responding to Mothership’s queries, a spokesperson from Bukit Timah Plaza said it is aware of the incident.
The smoke was due to a "small localised fire" at the driveway located at the rear of the building, the spokesperson said.
This resulted in smoke being detected within parts of the mall.
The spokesperson added that there was no fire spread within the building, and the incident was promptly attended to and extinguished by the on-site response team within approximately 15 minutes.
Mothership understands that no reports were made to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Some tenants evacuated voluntarily as a precautionary measure, and the smoke was ventilated and cleared within 30 minutes.
No injuries were reported, and the mall has since resumed normal operations after the incident, the spokesperson said.
