A Sheng Siong supermarket employee found a man lying in a tent displaying Chinese New Year goods on the morning of Feb. 17.

When he did not respond when they tried to wake him up, they called the police, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed to Mothership that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at Block 506, Tampines Central Road 1, on Jan. 17.

The 45-year-old man was found lying motionless and was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics.

According to preliminary investigations, police do not suspect foul play, and the case is still under investigation.

Lying inside tent

Liao, a coffee shop employee nearby, told Shin Min that when he passed by the supermarket at about 9am that day, he saw police cordoning off the area in front of the supermarket.

When Shin Min reporters visited the scene, the police had already covered the body with a white sheet and sealed off the tents.

Sida, who works at a nearby grocery store, told Shin Min that she saw a man lying there around 8am.

“A supermarket employee tried to wake him up, but the man didn’t respond. I believe the supermarket employee called the police later,” she said.
