About 85 per cent of the expected time of arrival (ETA) system for buses in Singapore will be restored on Jan. 28.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said manual firmware updates for 3,000 affected buses have been completed, according to a Facebook post on Jan. 27.

Remaining 1,000 buses to be updated next week

While the majority of the fleet will be synchronised by the morning of Jan. 28, LTA noted that another 1,000 buses "require similar updates".

These remaining updates will be carried out over the next week during non-service hours.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding while we resolve this issue. Rest assured, bus services will continue to run at normal frequencies," the authority wrote.

Technical issues detected since Jan. 10

On Jan. 21, LTA said it was investigating technical issues affecting the ETA system.

While bus operations and frequencies were not affected, the bus wait time estimates showed inaccuracies, which were first detected on Jan. 10.

LTA said: "Preliminary investigations indicate a technical issue in the on-board systems for some buses which are affecting the transmission of bus arrival timing estimates."
