'No more sign of life': 59 children still missing in collapsed Indonesia school
Parents have criticised the school for both safety lapses and their response to the tragedy.
There are still 59 children missing after a school collapsed in Indonesia on Sep. 30, 2025.
The collapse has killed at least five people.
According to CNA, rescuers reported on Oct. 2, 2025, that there were no further signs of life.
The head of the country's disaster mitigation agency said that despite using high-tech equipment like thermal drones, "scientifically, there were no more signs of life".
Initial reports have pointed to "substandard construction" as the primary cause of the boarding school's collapse in Sidoarjo, East Java.
According to The Guardian, the four-storey school had flattened so quickly that one official described it as a "pancake" disaster.
Parents have criticised the school for both safety lapses and their response to the tragedy.
A parent told The Guardian that there had been no apology from the management.
She also said she had protested the construction of the school "that looked weak", but had not gotten a reply from the management.
